The Peel Group has confirmed redevelopment plans for the Salford Quays leisure and retail centre in Manchester as part of a scheme dubbed The Watergardens.
The £16m project will include a waterside dining concept opening at the the Lowery Outlet Mall, comprising various restaurant outlets and a waterside promenade.
The site is right next to the huge Media City complex, with The Peel Group having earmarked it for redevelopment when it acquired the centre from Emerson for £70m in 2012.
Around 1,900 jobs are expected to be created by The Watergardens project, with architects Chapman Taylor incorporating biophilic design principles, ‘to strengthen the connection between nature and natural elements and the man-made environment’.
Prior to submitting a planning application to Salford City Council, Lifestyle Outlets showcased its plans at a public consultation event that took place on August 4th.
Jason Pullen, Managing Director of Lifestyle Outlets said: “The redevelopment will transform the southern waterside of the Lowry Outlet, allowing people to relax and dine with some of the finest waterfront views.
“When the work is complete, the Lowry Outlet will be a unique shopping and leisure destination that will draw people from across the region to Salford Quays and MediaCityUK.”
